Karolyn (Nubin) Minerd
Stitching, Storytelling & Creativity
5-Day Workshop
Tuesday May 12 - Saturday May 16

A story quilt is more than fabric and thread—they’re imaginative, original, and centered around a theme that’s uniquely yours.

Nubin will guide you through the creative process of transforming your stories into textile art.

Your project can convey a message, preserve a cherished memory, honor a family tradition, celebrate an achievement, or pay tribute to someone or something you adore… like your beloved pet.

Getting Started:

Begin with an image or memory.
For example: things that remind me of my grandma include…
Opossum footprints on her car windshield
Sliding down the banister and knocking over the violets at the bottom of the stairs
Her amazing apple dumplings and the smell of BenGay
Her saying she’d be ready in ‘three shakes of a dead lamb’s tail’

From these small moments, Nubin will help you build something full of meaning and creativity that extends far beyond
the center of the quilt and into the borders.
She’ll help you break down your ideas into key moments or elements you will want to represent. You might include four birds - one for each of your children, twelve butterflies to represent your grandchildren, or a tree for every 5K you’ve completed.

Nubin will also help you choose fabrics that resonate with the heart of your story.
Telling a tale of a favorite camping trip? You might explore botanical prints and earthy tones.
Celebrating a joyful occasion? Think bright colors and playful patterns.

You’ll learn how to use both machine and hand appliqué to add meaningful motifs and intricate shapes to your quilt.

Nubin will also introduce you to embroidery and embellishment techniques to add depth, and detail—bringing your story to life in every stitch.
You'll experiment with various fibers to create dynamic visual textures that engage the senses. You’ll also discover ways to expand your story into the borders.
Throughout the week, you’ll be inspired by the stories behind Nubin’s own quilts and learn tips and techniques that come so naturally to her. With her guidance, you’ll unlock your imagination and create a quilt that is both beautiful and deeply personal.
